Now offering chicken sitting services

I have been keeping chickens of my own for 6 months and am very knowledgeable about chicken care.

I am in N. Durham. I would like to stay closer to home, but if you are farther out don't hesitate to inquire. We can probably work something out.
A visit with a 5-10 minute drive distance would be $15/day
10-20 minute drive $20/day

If the chickens need to be let out and closed up at night, I am willing to make two trips
2 trips 5-10 minute drive $25/day
2 trips 10-20 minute drive $35/day

A visit will include checking & replenishing fresh water and food and gathering eggs.

I would prefer to trade for home grown fruits, vegetables, grains, and herbs fresh, frozen or home canned, home baked goods, home brewed bee/wine/cider.

Trade #2!

So the chickens are back at it, laying 6-8 eggs a day.  Today we had 30 eggs before I traded Erin a dozen for 4.65 pounds of sweet potatoes.

I still have 18 eggs, and will get 6-8 tomorrow.  I feel a sweet potato souffle coming on!

I still have 1 unclaimed dozen, what will I get next?!

Again!

Finally the chickens are laying again and we have 12 of our own eggs in the fridge.  Soon I'll have eggs to trade!

If anyone is interested I now have a batch of homemade laundry soap to trade.  I used a bar of Dr. Bronner's lavender castile soap, washing soda, and borax.  You need to use 1/4 cup per load.

No eggs.

I don't know what's going on with my chickens!  Suddenly they have decided to nearly STOP laying eggs!  Friday we didn't any eggs, and only one Saturday & Sunday.

I hope they snap out of it soon and resume laying, otherwise my blog will be changed to HAVE CHICKEN SOUP - WILL TRADE!

Our First Trade!

This morning I met E and her little boy T and traded a dozen whole wheat dinner rolls for a dozen eggs!

I am so glad to have met E.  I have been hearing her name around our community for years

This is exactly what I was looking for!  Meeting folks and trading for FOOD.

Thanks for the trade E!

Twenty FOUR!

Those are Jude's little fingers, trying to steal an "eehh"

We have a surplus!

I started our chicken adventure last September with eight little chicks. We ended up with two roosters out of those first eight.  They were fun to have around the yard, but they were incredibly noisy!  We traded those two for three Easter eggers, lost one to a hawk and now have eight.

We are getting 6 or 7 eggs a day now, which is more than our family of 4 needs.

So today I posted to a local group of like minded parents offering to trade our eggs for their home grown goodies.  I am so excited to say, I've already gotten an offer for pickles, jam and muffins!!!

I will keep a photo log of our trades here on HaveEggsWillTrade.  If you are interested in making a trade with me, or just want to check out what I've received please subscribe!!  I am also looking forward to sharing pictures, stories, and interesting and important information about chickens.

I am eagerly looking forward to getting to know my community and the bounty trading will bring!!
